Subscription & fixed-cost calculator

Subscriptions and fixed costs get billed on all sorts of cycles — weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly. This calculator puts every item on one basis and shows your total cost per month and per year, the cost of each item and the largest cost driver. Optionally, it shows what the monthly total would come to if invested over the years. It rates no providers and gives no cancellation advice. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is stored or sent anywhere.

Enter your subscriptions and fixed costs with their payment interval. The calculator converts everything to monthly and yearly costs – without rating individual providers or contracts. All defaults are example assumptions. The calculation runs in your browser; nothing is stored.

Items

Investment scenario (optional)

What would the monthly total come to if you invested it instead? Enter an interest rate and a term – both or neither. The rate is an example assumption, not a forecast.

How this calculator works

Each item is normalised to monthly and yearly costs via its payment interval. The monthly factor is 52/12 for weekly, 1 for monthly, 1/3 for quarterly and 1/12 for yearly payments; the yearly cost is always the monthly cost times twelve. The totals are the sums over all items, and the largest cost driver is the item with the highest monthly cost.

The optional investment scenario treats the monthly total as a monthly deposit over the chosen term and grows it at the nominal monthly rate (annual rate ÷ 12), paid in arrears — the same future-value formula as a compound-interest calculator. It shows what the money could come to if invested rather than spent; the rate is a freely chosen example assumption, not a forecast.

Internally the calculation is unrounded (the scenario uses the unrounded monthly sum); only the display rounds to the nearest cent. Amounts are shown in a currency of your choice (display only).

Formula and variables

Worked examples

Example 1: bringing subscriptions and fixed costs to one basis

Example inputs
Streaming (monthly)€15.00
Gym (monthly)€45.00
Car insurance (yearly)€900.00
Coffee subscription (weekly)€8.00
Example results
Cost per month€169.67
Cost per year€2,036.00
Largest cost driverCar insurance (75/month)

Converted to a month: streaming €15.00, gym €45.00, car insurance €75.00 (900 ÷ 12) and coffee about €34.67 (8 × 52 ÷ 12). Together €169.67 per month, i.e. €2,036.00 per year. The largest item is the insurance at €75.00 a month. All figures are example assumptions.

Example 2: invested instead of spent

Example inputs
Monthly total€169.67
Interest rate (example assumption)6% per year
Term15 years
Example results
Final amount after 15 years€49,342.24
Total paid in€30,540.00
Total interest€18,802.24

If you invested the monthly total instead, at 6% over 15 years it would come to about €49,342.24, of which €30,540.00 is your own contributions. The scenario uses the unrounded monthly sum. The 6% rate is an example assumption, not a recommendation to cancel any contracts.

Assumptions

  • Amounts stay constant (no price changes over time).
  • Weekly payments are counted as 52 weeks per year.
  • The scenario rate is a freely chosen example assumption, not a market value.

Limitations of this calculator

  • No rating of individual providers, contracts or subscriptions, and no cancellation advice.
  • No automatic subscription detection — you enter the items yourself.
  • The investment scenario is a model, not a return forecast; tax is not included.
  • Your inputs are not stored (privacy by design).

Frequently asked questions

Which payment intervals are supported?

Weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly. Enter each item at its real interval; the calculator brings everything to monthly and yearly costs, so items with different billing cycles compare directly.

Does it tell me which subscriptions to cancel?

No. It rates no providers or contracts and gives no cancellation advice. It shows neutrally what each item costs and which weighs most — the decision is yours.

What does the investment scenario show?

It works out what the monthly total would come to if invested over the chosen term. It is a model with a freely chosen rate — not a forecast and not a suggestion to cut these costs.

Are the items I enter stored anywhere?

No. The calculation runs entirely in your browser. Your entries are not stored and are not sent to a server.
